This mapper application displays salmon and salmon habitat research/monitoring efforts through Survey123, provided by individuals and organizations from around the Copper River Watershed. Additionally, data has been added to display recent and ongoing research and monitoring efforts, including fish counting locations, salmon radiotelemetry receiver locations, Copper Basin culvert projects, temperature monitoring locations, stream gauge locations, documented anadromous streams and lakes (and additional data not shown) from the ADF&G Anadromous Waterways Catalog (AWC), USGS Hydrologic Unit watershed boundaries (HUCs 6-12), and the Ahtna Territory boundary. Some of the features provide location data only. For additional information about the features please see below or contact Casey Cusick at casey@ahtnatribal.org and he will direct you to the feature's source author.
The "Fish Counting Locations (Sonar and Weir Locations)" were manually created in ArcGIS Pro and hosted via AITRC, and are based on known counting locations -NPS, ADF&G the Native Village of Eyak (NVE), and AITRC - either through a counting tower, sonar, or a weir. There is no actual fish count data in this feature class. The "Radiotelemetry Receiver Locations" were provided by NVE and are location and name only. The "Copper River Culvert Projects" feature class was provided by the Copper River Watershed Project (CRWP) and can be found in CRWP's Culvert Mapper 2.0. The "Temperature Monitoring Locations" feature class was also provided by CRWP and can be found in their Temperature Monitoring Dashboard. "Stream Gauge Locations" can display real-time measurements of water depth and is hosted by ArcGIS and provided by multiple reporting agencies - because these gauges are currently showing "Gauge out of service" due to Alaska winter conditions they are being displayed as locations only (during the field season, this can be symbolized to show current conditions). The ADF&G AWC and USGS HUC datasets are hosted directly from the ADF&G and USGS ArcGIS open geoportals through ArcGIS, respectively. The "Ahtna Territory" boundary was developed by AITRC and Ahtna, Incorporated and shows the understood boundary of the Ahtna Traditional-Use Territory, Ahtna Territory, or Ahtna Region.
